My neighbor emailed me the other day to ask if I wanted any salvage wood from their privacy fence. I gladly picked through her wood and scored some nice rustic fence pickets that I used for building this wood storage shed.
On average, the labor costs of building a shed average around $70 an hour, or around half the total cost to build a custom shed - $3,000 for a 10’ x 12’ wooden shed. For a kit, expect to pay a fee of $100 to $500, depending on how complex it is to assemble. When contracting with a shed building company, they supply all the materials and labor and, in many instances, build all or most of the shed off-site, then deliver it to your property for finishing. .
If you need more space, add a lean-to to your existing shed. This is more like a bump-out than a full addition. Costs average around $30 a square foot.
Metal sheds can be purchased in a kit, but these are generally flimsy and not recommended for any area that sees high winds or snow because they cannot hold up well enough to either one. A metal shed with a lumber frame with metal walls and roof can be built anywhere. Metal is limited in style and color options, but if you are custom building with a wood frame, you can have your shed built to nearly any size. A wooden-framed metal shed costs around $4,500.
Our founders, Leland Ulrich and Corey Yoder have been building high quality products, from the best materials, with outstanding customer service, for over 20 years. They give credit to God as the leader of their company for providing wisdom, and giving them a passion to serve others. The company was founded on biblical principles and it still guides us today.
Pro Tip: Keep in mind that not every shed comes with a foundation. If you want your kit built on a foundation, such as a concrete slab, a pro can help with installation.
Hi Brittany, very good and inspiring plan. I built it with some modifications of my own, and about a quarter of it is reclaimed or repurposed wood. Mine’s the same depth but 8′ long and with roof 9′ long as shingles come in 3′ lengths. I went up a foot higher than yours and reversed the slope of the roof as mine is next to garage wall. Also, I used deck screws instead of nails and handled the footings a little differently. I’d send you pics but don’t see how to. Recommendation: tell folks to make their cuts in the tallest 4×4 before assembling the shed; much easier and safer that way. Regards, Wayne

The loft shed was exactly what we needed in our space. It was built to our specifications, installed quickly, and is well constructed. I was a little concerned because of the slight slope to the ground, but they were easily able to level it. I’m very pleased. Jay F. Halliday 2 years ago
DuraTemp is a plywood siding with a 1/8″ Douglas Fir wood composite face. It looks natural, resists dents, checks and cracks. It is inherently stronger, lighter and more durable than engineered wood sidings, and provides a low-maintenance, easy to paint surface. Our Duratemp-sided structures are constructed with Duratemp plywood siding. It’s a great product and the most economical siding choice. It is always 100% free and clear of patches.
Utility sheds are made using the best quality products. With different options for the siding, roofing, and flooring, you can choose the materials and options that are best for you.
Building a deck usually costs between $22 and $48 per square foot, and a patio typically costs $8 to $20 per square foot.

PopularMechnics has plans for pretty much everything you can build for the house and around the house. Therefore, a properly engineered firewood shed couldn’t miss from the list. You can use this shed for storing firewood and small logs so you can dry them and be ready for the cold season. The lean to roof makes this structure easy to build and the front and back openings lets the air flow to dry the wood quickly. MORE >>
